2023 Skin-Fermented Riesling ‘Cumulus’

In 2021 we made two individual Skin-fermented Rieslings from a single vineyard. One picked directly from the base of the escarpment, the other 200m further away. It’s an exploration of terroir with skin fermentation! Sourced from individual blocks from the Grimsby Hillside Vineyard. Cumulus is from Block 510 sitting 200m further from the escarpment on red clay soils and benefitting from additional sun exposure.
Hand picked fruit was destemmed and fermented naturally in stainless steel. Punched down twice daily until pressing after 10 days. Put to barrel to age for 7 months. Bottled with 50 ppm added sulphur, unfined and unfiltered.
A concentrated nose of spiced pear, coconut, lemon and straw. The palate is fresh and vibrant with loads of juicy citrus. The palate has bright acidity, light tannins and high acidity.
