A thrilling co-ferment of 62% Marquette, 17% Viognier, 11% Gewürztraminer with 10% Cabernet Franc blended in.
Marquette, organically grown from the Appletop Vineyard was dosed with carbon dioxide and a pied de cuve (natural yeast), prior to travel to Trail Estate. The Gewürztraminer was fermented carbonically, while the Viognier was pressed whole cluster. Cabernet Franc from 2021 was blended in to this wine to create depth and balance. Aged in neutral French oak for 9 months.
The 2023 growing season was an EPIC season! Filled with plenty of challenges in the summer — lots of rain, high humidity and lots of heat. In September, the season flipped on its head and we were given the most beautiful ripening season. Grapes showed amazing concentration of flavour and great retention of acidity. The best!
Bright sour cherry candies with tart citrus notes on the nose. On the palate this wine has light herbaceous flavours interlaced with sweet grape popsicles. Where serious meets light and fun, we find this wine the perfect combo, walking the line between classic and natural.
