Trail is looking for someone who has both practical and theoretical skills as well as a hands-on "do whatever needs doing" attitude and can contribute to various facets of the winery. Yes, some days require long hours. That said, we keep hours sane as much as possible (to keep us sane) — just know there is no set schedule during harvest!
Requirements for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Experience and the ability to perform day-to-day cellar tasks (laboratory knowledge would be an asset)
Ability to run a crush pad, harvesting/receiving grapes, pressing, destemming, etc.
Cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment
Be proactive; take initiative
Cellar tasks such as tank/barrel cleaning and sanitizing, punch downs, pump overs, monitoring ferments, racking and transfers, barrel work, and bottling
Have a strong palate; ability to monitor (wild) ferments
Participate in wine decisions based on fruit/vintage conditions, in coordination with winemaker
Maintain up-to-date thorough wine records
Attention to detail, have strong communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Mechanical skills in relation to winery equipment maintenance and upkeep – would be an asset
Other Cellar/VY/FOH tasks as may be required
Ability to lift 50lbs+
Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ vintages cellar experience
Technical Degree/Diploma in Winemaking or Oenology
Enjoys working individually as well as part of the team;
Proven ability to motivate and influence others through personal actions and examples
Ability to operate forklift and tractor is an asset
Valid driver’s license is required
Must be eligible to work in Canada and fluent in English (spoken and written).
